Child’s Play, Most Ridiculous Movie Ever?

I have no idea how this movie scared me as a kid.  The premise of this movie is so absurd.  The film begins as Chicago serial killer Charles Lee Ray is hunted by the police. After a bloody encounter, Ray finds himself cornered in a downtown toy store.   Using some kind of voodoo, the killer transports his soul into a “Good Guy” doll and escapes his would-be captors. Of course, the “Good Guy” is the hottest toy of the season. And it’s the only thing youngster Andy Barclay wants for his birthday. His mother (a wonderful Catherine Hicks) can’t afford the doll’s expensive price tag. Lucky for her, but not so lucky for Andy, she finds a peddler who’ll sell the doll on the cheap. As you might guess, it’s possessed.

In the opening scenes of the film, Chucky (the doll’s new moniker) is a bit reserved. He doesn’t do anything out of the ordinary around adults, but develops quite the relationship with Andy. He attempts to use Andy Barclay to transfer his soul into since Andy was the first person to whom Chucky revealed his secret, and thus the only person Chucky could transfer his soul to, in accordance with the voodoo spell.  The body transfer involves Chucky putting his right hand on Andy’s forehand and chanting

“Ade due damballa. Give me the power, I beg of you. Leveau mercier du bois chaloitte. Secoise entienne mais pois de morte. Morteisma lieu de vocuier de mieu vochette. Endenlieu pour du boisette damballa! Endenlieu pour du boisette damballa! Endenlieu pour du boisette damballa!

Wow, I can’t even believe I just typed that.  I’m not even sure if this movie is supposed to be a comedy, horror film, or both.”  All I know is that this movie scared the shit out of me as a kid.  As an adult, it looks more like a College Humor skit than a horror movie.  Oh, and Hollywood, please DO NOT  remake this movie.  We all saw what happened to that abortion that you called Nightmare on Elm Street.
